  • John Boehner is the U.S. Representative from Ohio's 8th congressional district, serving since 1991.
  • He served as the House Minority Leader from 2007 until 2011, and House Majority Leader from 2006 until 2007.
  • He is second in line to the presidency of the United States following the Vice President in accordance with the Presidential Succession Act.
  • He is married to Debbie in 1973 and lives in the Wetherington section of West Chester Township.
  • He was born in Reading, Ohio. His father was of German descent and his mother had German and Irish ancestry.
  • He joined the United States Navy but was honorably discharged after eight weeks because of a bad back.
  • He did his B.A. in business administration from Xavier University in 1977, becoming the first person in his family to attend college.
  • Later, he joined a small sales business in the packaging and plastics industry, became president of the firm, resigned in 1990 when he was elected to Congress.
