  • Anthony John Abbott is an Australian politician. He is the 28th Prime Minister of Australia.
  • He was born 4 November 1957.
  • He born in London, England to an Australian mother and English-born father who returned to Sydney in 1960.
  • His father, Dick Abbott, was a dentist.
  • He studied Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
  • He is the Member of Parliament representing Warringah since the election in 1994.
  • He was first appointed to the Cabinet in 1998 under the Howard Government.
  • On 1 January 2001, he was awarded the Centenary Medal for service as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
  • He was sworn as the 28th Prime Minister of Australia on 18 September 2013.
  • When Abbott was 19, his girlfriend became pregnant and claimed Abbott was the biological father. However, few years later a DNS test revealed Abbott was not the biological father of the boy.
  • Abbott married Margaret "Margie" Aitken and the couple has three daughters.
  • He worked as a journalist for The Bulletin and later The Australian newspaper in his early career days.
  • He has a nickname - "Mad Monk", a reference to his training as a Catholic priest before becoming a journalist and then a politician.
